Glacier Danes is a friendly family consisting of two guys and 13 Great Danes located in Parker, Colorado. Loren has been showing Great Danes since 2000 and Brian has been working with a couple of the dogs in certified therapy work since 2017 at special events, a skilled nursing facility, and primarily at Denver International Airport as a proud member of the Canine Airport Therapy Squad (CATS) . We have occasionally bred our dogs over the past several years with our first litter in 2004.
Our goal is to not just breed Great Danes, but breed healthy, happy, and to the breed standard as we truly believe in breed preservation. We search for the best possible dogs to pair with our dogs in order to create excellent representatives for the breed in conformation, health, and temperament. What this entails is that we search across the country for the best match for our future generations. We seek complementing pedigrees and when we find a pedigree we like, we contact the owner and/or breeder and inquire further.
All of our dogs are health tested for: hips, elbows, thyroid, eyes, and heart. We will not breed any of our dogs that do not pass these tests, and prefer to not breed to dogs that have not been tested themselves. We spend a lot of time and money ensuring what we do and what we breed is the best we can possibly do for our beloved breed.
Whether or not we show the dogs we own, none of our dogs ever leave our house, even if they do not turn out to be show dogs or are retired show or therapy dogs. They are part of our family and will always remain this way until the day any of us die.
Our dogs live on a 5-acre fenced property and have plenty of space (approximately 1 acre) for exercise and playing. For their safety while we are not home, they have their very own building and individual kennels to reside in until we return. They are truly spoiled rotten!
As responsible breeders, we always take back any puppies we have bred and place them in a more suitable home. We have learned through various rescues that there are breeders who say they will take back their breedings, but do not. If you are aware of a Great Dane who needs to be rescued for whatever reason, please see our Resources link or send us an email with as many details as you have available.
Many people ask and some are surprised at the cost of our puppies so we decided to spell it out here. We put literally thousands of dollars into each dog prior to them being acceptable to breed in our opinion. This includes all the health testing listed above not to mention all the costs of showing each animal and tending to their life needs up to, through, and beyond breeding. Being we breed five of the seven GDCA-recognized show colors, there is a range. Currently, they are $2,000-$3,500 depending on colors. Mantles, Harlequins, and Merle Mantles are significantly more because, on average, litters of these colors, only yield 25% for show-marked puppies. Economically the prices are higher because demand is high and supply is low. Breed preservation is critical and it takes a lot of money to make this occur.
Please feel free to ask us any and all questions. Be sure to visit our ‘About the Breed’ page as it contains a lot of valuable information including important breed disorders and diseases, exercising, crating/kenneling, feeding and more. We encourage dialogue with us in order to help educate you more on the breed as well as our breeding program. If you see us at a dog show, please come by and say ‘hello!’ We love to talk about our gentle giants and encourage socialization with everyone!
Welcome to Glacier Danes!
